Coastal Style Brings the Outdoors Inside
The ocean and lands of coastal South Carolina provide endless inspiration for coastal style. The sprawling sandy beaches and grass-covered dunes of the Grand Strand. The twisted, moss-laden live oaks of Murrells Inlet. The bright, vibrant colors of Crepe Myrtle trees. At Odom Design we look for ways to draw the natural wonder and peace of the land into your home design and decoration.
Here are some ways that you can imbue your home with some South Carolina coastal style. For more inspiration, please see our curated “Coastal Style” Pinterest board.
Soften the Color Palette
One of the easiest changes you can make to transform your home is to change up the color. Clean, crisp whites paired with soft grays and blues are calming colors that will work well with many different styles and colors of furniture. All white kitchen cabinetry and walls with slate blue on an accent wall or center island brings feelings of the ocean to a high-traffic area without feeling overwhelming.
Additionally, consider woods or even laminate with grain patterns and color stains that evoke the grays and browns or driftwood.
Decorate with Minimally, But with Purpose
One of the things that makes the Grand Strand so different from other beach is how broad and wide open they feel. If you ask many locals, the best beach months are in the fall after the tourists have left. There’s nothing like a wind-swept beach, free of people. Bring a minimalist approach to decorating. Less clutter will allow your furniture and decoration to stand out and provide you with the calmness and tranquility of a clean beach.
We love the use of clear or colored glass to collect shells, aged, natural wood or painted wood frames, and stone and stonework of all kinds. The key to getting the coastal feel is to look for items that still maintain something natural about them.
Consider Upgrades or Renovations
In addition to design-to-build projects, Odom Design specializes in interior design and custom renovations.
